Memorandum From Your Dog

I have noticed the last couple of weeks you have been behaving strangely. Couldn’t help from overhearing peculiar phone conversations with unfamiliar people using words like sea, surf, sand, and sunsets. Didn’t I see you come home yesterday with a Pet’s Mart bag stuffed with my favorite dog treats, bones, and a couple of new chew toys? It’s not Christmas, is it? What’s happening? Tell me. Tell me. Are you planning a vacation that doesn’t include me?

Now, hold the phone before you get too carried away. Remember, I depend on you for all my care and love, and I am rather unenthusiastic for kenneling….too noisy, too many cats, too confining, and too boring! Before you become too conscience-stricken about leaving me, wouldn’t it be great if I could stay here at home with a PET SITTER? I could keep my king of the castle status, sleep in my own bed, nap on the sofa, and eat my favorite food!

Yesterday while we were walking with Roxie, our next-door neighbor dog, she told me about an experienced, plucky, and spirited care giver who will come to our house and stay while you are out-of-town. She will feed, water, walk, and play with me. And get this, the word on the street is she might even take me to the newly opened Dog Park in Stuart Nelson Park for a romp if I mind her and follow the rules!

A local resident of Paducah, Lou Coots, is a qualified doting virtuoso of the pet care world. A graduate of Sophie Newcomb of Tulane in New Orleans, Coots aspired to a career in the restaurant field. However, as often happens, fate and family created a slight twist in her career path. After the death of her mother, she was called home to take care of her paraplegic father and aging grandmother.

Here’s the scoop: she does not advertise or use business cards. Most of her clients come from word-of-mouth satisfied pet owners. She requires an in-house visit with every client taking copious notes and information regarding the medical conditions and needs, likes and dislikes, and habits of the pooches. Her profession keeps her on the move. Often, she is required to travel 30-50 miles away to attend to her special patrons. Nevertheless, she always arrives prepared and even has been known to fall in love with each and every pet.

Light housekeeping is included in her duties plus watering the plants, collecting the mail, over-seeing the home security, and changing the bed linens all before you return home. And remember this, she has a real affinity for elderly animals. She recognizes that pets like people have different personalities. Some are very standoffish and demand their space while others wiggle and dance to get as close to a person as possible. I have been told she has stated some of the most charming people she has ever met have been through her work.

Specializing in home care, if you desire someone who will profusely lavish positive attention on me as your fabulous pet, think “Lou” for an excellent warm-hearted posh pet sitter doling out lots of TLC. Perhaps you will have a new BFF too, but hurry she’s very popular and stays constantly booked up! I think maybe Coots has trained with Dr. Doolittle for I know she walks with the animals, and I hear she talks with them too!
